LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Barbie is honoring a Las Vegas doctor as part of a line of dolls designed to thank frontline heroes.

Toymaker Mattel said in a news release that six new Barbie dolls will honor individuals leading the fight against COVID-19.

Among those figures is one based on Dr. Audrey Sue Cruz of Las Vegas. Mattel credits her with joining other Asian-American doctors in the fight against racial bias and discrimination.

Barbie recognizes that all frontline workers have made tremendous sacrifices when confronting the pandemic and the challenges it heightened," Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and global head of Barbie & Dolls at Mattel, said in a statement. "To shine a light on their efforts, we are sharing their stories and leveraging Barbie’s platform to inspire the next generation to take after these heroes and give back."

Dr. Cruz said she was honored to be part of the company's #ThankYouHeroes program.

"With this honor, I hope to shine a light on the commitment and compassion all frontline workers exhibited over the past year and a half and every single day," she wrote to Instagram.

Mattel says it will also donate $5 from each eligible doll sold at Target to the First Responders Children's Foundation. People can donate here.
