NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A bond has been set at $2,500,000 for the former Titans scout accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend.
Blaise Taylor, 27, was arrested in Utah on two counts of first-degree murder after the poisoning death of his girlfriend Jade Benning and her 5-month-old fetus.
Earlier this month, Taylor made his first court appearance via video conference. The district attorney's office is pursuing life in prison without parole for Taylor under accused circumstances that the defendant knew the victim was pregnant, committed the murder knowingly and committed the murder against a person less than 12 years old.
Taylor moved to Utah after the deaths. He is accused of poisoning Benning without her knowing while visiting her Lebanon Pike apartment the night of Feb. 25.
She was rushed to the hospital by ambulance the night of Feb. 25 after Taylor called 911, saying she appeared to be having an allergic reaction.
Her medical condition became critical. Benning's unborn fetus, which she shared with Taylor, died on Feb. 27. The unborn girl would've been named Ivy, the family said. Benning died on March 6, 2023: Her 25th birthday.
Benning's family described her as a "radiant soul."
Jade was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, niece, sister, cousin and soon to be mother," a statement from the family said. "She was a cherished member of the community and a dear friend to many. Her untimely death has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled.Taylor worked with the Tennessee Titans as a scout from 2019 to 2023, the team confirmed to WZTV.
