Bussell specializes in laparoscopic surgery, which covers conditions such as colon and rectal cancer, diverticulitis, polyps and inflammatory bowel disease. He also leads the hospital’s Colon and Rectal Cancer Program, which focuses on the prevention, detection and treatment of primary and metastatic cancers of the colon and rectum.
He is the second surgeon to be named the Harold and Cora Spratt Endowed Chair, established in 2007.
“With Dr. Bussell as the recipient of this distinction, the Hospital will build upon its record of providing the finest minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgical care to our patients,” said Dr. Keith A. Zuccala, chairman of Danbury Hospital’s Department of Surgery.
Bussell earned his medical degree from Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine, completing a medical residency at the school's hospital and a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center.
