Habitat for Humanity to provide new program in Centre County

A well-known, international home building organization is looking to expand one of its services in Centre County.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that specializes in building affordable housing, often through the work of volunteers.

In Centre County, the organization’s new “Whole Home Repair Program” won’t involve constructing new housing.

Instead, it’s aimed at providing assistance in substantial home improvement projects, such as new roofing, windows, or similar upgrades.

“This relationship with Habitat is a symbiotic one that will possibly do the most good for the most people in our community. The effect of the Whole Home Repair Program could be to keep people in their homes who otherwise may not be able to remain at home. Whether it’s because of inability, unsustainable energy costs, or in the case of accessibility or elderly issues related to their home.”

Through a $520,000 grant, Centre County government will be partnering with Habitat on their “Whole Home Repair Program.”

The county's office of adult services intends to work with homeowners who could be candidates for the assistance program, which may begin as early as next month.
