UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WJAC) — Thousands, once again, are already in State College for Penn State's home opener Saturday.
But for those heading to the football game before kickoff, keep in mind there are changes in how you get to the stadium's parking lots.
In State College, Penn State football is talked about year-round, but in recent weeks and months there's been added discussion on how you’re getting to the stadium. Penn State has changed the stadium traffic and parking pattern, with a key issue being: know your zone.
There's a lot more road signage further out than before from the stadium area.
On the signs, are zone designations -- what zone you park in, and what route you're to take to get there.
That’s one of the stadium's closest intersections.
The new traffic patterns will go into effect four hours before kickoff, and with 20-25,000 vehicles, plus another 1,000 RVs on game days, there's bound to be some opening game traffic confusion.
For those with parking passes, before heading to the stadium, you’re urged to check the pass, the traffic info is on the back.
The same traffic patterns will be in effect for post-game traffic also.
Again, the new traffic patterns go into effect at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, four hours before kickoff.
Fans are welcome to show up before 11:30 a.m., especially with a nice forecast for Saturday, set up early and tailgate.
Keep in mind road construction on south Atherton Street and Route 322 in Potters Mills. PennDOT is advising to expect added delays in those areas.
