BIOGRAPHY
Daughter of actress Thórey Sigthórsdóttir and director Hilmar Oddsson , Icelandic Hera Hilmar naturally gravitates towards comedy. It was also under the direction of the latter that she began her career, appearing at the age of 7 in Tears of stone (1995) then in Sporlaust . However, she received her first major role around ten years later in Veðramót .

After the detective series La Falaise , the young woman left her native Iceland and studied at the famous London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art. She has a series of Anglo-Saxon productions: we can see her in the mini-series The Pillars of the Earth: A World Without End , the drama show Leaving as well as the adaptation of Anna Karenina by Joe Wright . In 2013, she then landed a recurring role in Da Vinci’s Demons , which revisits the youth of the famous Italian artist and inventor. Hera Hilmar played Leonard Da Vinci’s friend and Giuliano de’ Medici’s lover for three seasons.

In 2016, she headlined The Ottoman Lieutenant , a First World War romance bringing together Josh Hartnett , Michiel Huisman and Ben Kingsley . She finds the latter in An Ordinary Man , a thriller inspired by the flight of Serbian war criminal Slobodan Milosevic. But it was two years later that she achieved worldwide notoriety by becoming the heroine of Mortal Engines , a post-apocalyptic SF blockbuster produced by Peter Jackson . She is a dangerous, disfigured fugitive, Hester Shaw, guided by a desire for revenge.
