If you bumped into Katie Morgan walking down a Los Angeles boulevard, you’d likely think she was like any other gorgeous blonde in Southern California. She’d very possibly be strolling hand-in-hand with her husband, Jim, and she’d almost certainly smile or offer up a bubbly hello.

As an actress, former adult star, dancer and radio host, Morgan is one of the most recognized names in the adult entertainment industry — a journey that began when she was barely out of high school.
“I was out on bail for a federal felony, and I was sitting around at home alone waiting for my court dates and watching a lot of porn, as one does when one’s 20,” she explained. “And it just occurred to me that that was their job — I was watching this movie and these people were actually at work, and I was like, ‘I want to do that!'”
Morgan didn’t wait around for fate to intervene. Seizing the moment, she rifled through a friend’s Rolodex, stole a porn star’s number and cold-called her.
“‘How do I get into this business?’ Morgan told us she asked the porn star. “And she gave me an agent and pointers on what to do and what not to do, and I followed those directions. It was really the best advice anyone’s probably ever given me in my life.”
She didn’t set out to become a household name. “Honestly, when I first got into the industry, I was like, ‘I’ll just do a few movies, make some money before I go to jail,'” she admitted. “All the way home from the first scene I ever did, I thought, ‘Oh, I really like this. I think I might do a lot of this.’ And I did… for seven years and 400-something-odd movies.”
By 2008, though, Morgan had unofficially retired from adult films and was starring in her first mainstream feature film, Kevin Smith’s comedy Zack & Miri Make a Porno, starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks.
It was on that set she was introduced to Jim Jackman, a man she would ultimately go on to marry. “But it wasn’t really a love-at-first-sight type of thing,” she revealed. “We were both actually in relationships and out in Pittsburgh at the time, and we just became really good friends.”
When they found themselves both single and on another movie set together a year later, things started to heat up. Morgan says that since Jackman already knew her history when they met, she didn’t have to “break out the whole ‘this is what I do for a job at work with new people every day'” conversation.
And although she no longer acts in adult films, Morgan still enjoys a highly sex-centric career. For the past four years, she has spent much of her time working by making appearances and traveling with her burlesque show.
“They are always at gentleman’s clubs and definitely exotic,” she elaborated of the shows, “but it’s not your basic strip show. I do a full-on, kind of rock-n-roll burlesque thing. It starts out all classic with feathers, and it ends up with kind of thrashing, metal dancing.”
The transition from adult film star to dancer wasn’t exactly a seamless one, however.
“I was never a dancer before I was in the adult industry at all. I had to hire a coach to help me, and they said we needed to get a metronome because I had no rhythm whatsoever,” she said. “And here we are 10 years later, and that’s really what I do for the most part.”
While she realizes there are men who aren’t supportive when their girlfriends or wives choose careers as exotic dancers, Morgan says that’s a non-issue with Jackman.
“No, he’s never gotten jealous — jealousy is definitely not one of our things,” she asserted. “Although he does moderate my Facebook page and stuff. He gets mad more than anything else when people are d***s, but he doesn’t get jealous at the flattery because that’s just my job. That’s who I am… that’s who I was when he met me.”
Jackman is so supportive, in fact, he’s been known to watch Morgan’s performances. “I’ve taken him on the road with me before as a roadie. He goes, but he really doesn’t like crawling around cleaning up dollars,” she joked.
For her part, Morgan doesn’t feel bad about what she does for a living. “Oh gosh, no,” she emphasized. “Basically, I have zero guilt. I have no guilt and no shame and no reason to have any of it. I’m just me, and I’m happy to be me.”
Besides, she notes, her life was centered on sex long before she ventured into the adult film industry. “I’m an entertainer and I always have been, and sex has just been such a huge part of my life. It was before I got in the adult industry — I was married at 19 and swingin’ before I ever got arrested and thought, ‘Hey, I could do porn.'”
She doesn’t consider dancing or the adult film industry to be taboo. She simply feels as though it’s a natural expression and one that merits a place in society.
“It was just always an exploration of mine, and it’s kind of stayed that way,” she mused. “And that’s just part of life, right? You need firefighters and you need policemen… and you need porn stars. You need somebody to fill every niche. That’s just mine.”
Luckily, Jackman doesn’t have to worry too much about being protective of Morgan. The star — who admits she is “incredibly stubborn and has always kind of done things in my own way” — hasn’t had the kinds of bad experiences with fans other entertainers have. “For the most part, people are really, really, really nice,” she asserted. “I’ve never had any kind of problems. I put positive out there, and people seem to give me back positive.”
If Morgan ever did find herself in an uncomfortable situation, she certainly wouldn’t keep it from her husband.
“I think honesty is always the best policy when it’s somebody that you’re sleeping with. I think that starting from an open place and staying in an open place keeps it better, because as soon as you start lying — as soon as you start hiding and feeling guilty about that thing — it affects you in ways you don’t realize it does,” she proffered.
We were curious, though. Does being in an industry where everything is hyper-sexual ever make Morgan feel burnt out on sex at home?
In a word, no.
The petite blonde says her sex life with her husband is “really, really stellar,” and she confesses that even when she was in adult film, she never lost her carnal appetite when the cameras weren’t rolling.
“The whole time I was in the industry, I was actually in a relationship with another guy for seven years — almost the entire time I was in the industry — and we were what we called ‘porno-monogamous,'” she told us, laughing. “So nobody else — no friends of his, no cameramen, no random guys I think are hot — but other performers were fair game. And that really, really worked when I was in the industry.”
That lifestyle wasn’t a problem for Morgan back then but, as is life and as is true of any relationship, things change. “Since I’ve retired, I don’t know what happened. I’ve caught a bit of the monogamy recently,” she giggled.
Speaking with Morgan, it’s pretty apparent she’s a woman completely enamored with her husband, not unlike me. Or you. Or any other person in a happy marriage. And that speaks directly to a truth about the adult entertainment industry that Morgan has been espousing for the last decade.
“Everyone is just normal,” she told us. “Well, normal is maybe the wrong word… but more normal than you might expect. We obviously have strange jobs and we certainly look at the world different than other people, but that’s all it is. It’s just a viewpoint of ‘This is OK.’ It’s incredibly liberating.”
