Kenneth Roger Darrah, 87, Of Danbury, WWII Purple Heart Recipient

DANBURY, Conn. - Kenneth Roger Darrah of Danbury died Monday March 18. He was 87.

Darrah was born March 21, 1925, in Cadyville, N.Y., son of Gilbert and Marguerite (Dutton) Darrah.

He served as a Marine in WWII, taking part in the battles of Guam, Iwo Jima and Bougainville, and was a Purple Heart recipient.

Darrah worked at Harlem Valley Hospital in Wingdale, N.Y., for 10 years before being employed by Barden Corporation in Danbury, from which he retired in 1987.

He was a member and usher of the United Methodist Church in Danbury. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the VFW in Danbury.

Darrah is survived by his wife, Lois; sons, Kenneth C. Darrah (Kathy) of Bethel, Conn. and Keith Darrah of Ridgefield, Conn.; daughters, Linda Beschle (Gary) of Pipe Creek, Texas, Janice Grant (Robert) of New Milford, Conn. and Shari Gleissner (John) of New Milford, Conn.; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Darrah of Cadyville, N.Y.; sister, Jean Tamer of Cadyville, N.Y.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Flora Collins and Hazel Decker and brothers, Gilbert and Clarence Darrah.

Calling hours are Wednesday March 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hull Funeral Home 60 Division St., Danbury, Conn. Funeral service will be held on Thursday March 21, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, 5 Clapboard Ridge, Danbury CT. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bethel, CT
