Merely days after announcing their divorce, Madonna and Guy Richie have reached a financial settlement that will leave the RocknRolla director rock n’ roll-ing in money.
Ritchie will walk with $60 million in assets, including the couple’s 1200-acre estate in the English countryside, a London pub and a large amount of cash.
Madonna gets to keep her New York and Los Angeles homes and most of her vast fortune.
“The negotiations were relatively painless,” a source told The Sun. “Guy knew what he wanted and Madonna knew what she was keen to keep. There was a spell when Guy was in a mood to dig his heels in, but he decided this arrangement seemed reasonable and a long battle over money would make life unbearable.”
The couple famously had no prenup, much like Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills. Madonna took another cue from the Beatle when she hired his divorce lawyer, Fiona Shackleton, who negotiated Madonna’s terms during a day of phone calls with Ritchie’s lawyers.
Custody of the pair’s three children has yet to be decided but is thought to be an amicable process. Lourdes, 12, is Madonna’s daughter with personal trainer Carlos Leon; Rocco, eight, is Ritchie’s biological son with the singer. The couple adopted David, three, last year.
