Johnstown, PA — A local fire department is without one of their vehicles after being involved in a separate crash while responding to the scene of another crash last week.
A crew from the Nanty Glo Fire Department was responding to a deadly crash Friday afternoon when they themselves crashed.
Now, that fire truck awaits repairs.
The Nanty Glo Fire Chief tells Channel 6 – the crash involving one of his fire trucks occurred only a few miles away from the crash they were responding to on Swigle Mountain Road.
The Nanty Glo Fire Department got the call Friday.
“Commercial vehicle accident with entrapment with a trauma arrest on scene,” recalled Joe LaMantia Jr. the Fire Chief with the Nanty Glo Fire Department.
The Coroner says Daniel Canning of Jackson Township Cambria County died at the scene.
“This gentleman was 83 years of age,” says Jeff Lees the Cambria County Coroner. “An autopsy was performed on Saturday and we are still, we are waiting pathology findings.”
As multiple crews, including the Nanty Glo Fire Department were responding to the scene, “I can confirm that our rescue was involved in a vehicle accident.”
Which LaMantia estimates is only three or four miles from the crash scene.
LaMantia says there were about six individuals onboard.
“We did have one firefighter and one patient transported from the scene,” adds LaMantia. “Our fire fighter was transported for evaluation and as far as the other patient I’m not sure what the extent of injuries was.”
The Fire Chief says they are currently waiting on insurance for repairs on the firetruck to begin and as for what caused the fire truck to get in an accident is still under investigation.
