Osha Investigation After HazMat Called To Second Ammonia Leak At Kunzler Meats

May 2024 · 1 minute read

Residents in the area were asked to shelter who lived within a half-mile radius around Kunzler Meats on Manor Street on March 12, 2023.

First responders were called back to Kunzler for the same smell around 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, according to the Lancaster County Emergency Management Agency. This cleared within two hours.

Kunzler has had multiple violations since OSHA first started inspections in 2018, following "multiple amputation injuries" which happened in 2018 and again in 2019, then a “hazardous energy” investigation in 2020, and in 2021 a settlement was made for “general requirements for all machines.”

This most recent case was opened on Monday, March 13, 2023.

OSHA officials have up to six months to complete their investigation regarding the two ammonia incidents.
