Authorities in Mifflin County say a Reedsville man is behind bars following an investigation into accusations that he repeatedly sexually abused two young girls.

Police say Michael Mowery, 61, faces dozens of charges after two girls came forward earlier this year to report that they had each been molested by him at his home, which operated as a private daycare.

According to the affidavit, police say Mowery allegedly abused one of the victims from the time she was 5-years-old until age 11.

Authorities say the second victim reported that she had allegedly been assaulted by Mowery from ages 7 to 14, and that the assaults occurred as recently as last December.

Police noted that neither victim no longer attends the private daycare.

Investigators say in both cases, the victims claimed that Mowery assaulted them during "nap time" at the daycare.

Police say one of the victims also reported being molested by Mowery while she stayed overnight at the home.

The second victim, according to the complaint, also recalled an incident in which she was molested by Mowery while she was changing into a bathing suit.

Police also noted that, according to one of the victims, during one of the "nap time" assaults, a woman was present in the room and had reportedly "coached her" so that "she would feel better" during the assault.

According to online court records, Mowery was arraigned Tuesday on various charges, including aggravated indecent assault of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

He is being held at the Mifflin County Jail and his bail has been set at $500,000 for each case.

Police added that the investigation into Mowery's alleged abuse is still ongoing.
