Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A trial date has been set in Michigan for a man charged with rapes there, and in State College, that date back more than 20 years ago.
The Michigan case is up first for Kurt Rillema, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, and that outcome could decide whether he is ever extradited to Pennsylvania to face court action in Centre County.
Police say the two cases are similar in that they involve accusations of Rillema raping women at golf courses.
Centre County authorities say, in 2000, Rillema reportedly held a knife to the throat of a female jogger and then raped her at the Penn State golf course.
In Michigan, Rillema is charged in a 1999 golf course rape.
He was arrested earlier this year, based on DNA evidence police say they obtained off a coffee cup.
Court records in Oakland County, Michigan show his jury selection in his trial is set for September 28th.
Rillema's bid to be released from jail in Michigan was previously denied by a judge, who ordered he be held without bail.
