MEDELLIN, Colombia (CelebrityAccess) — American rapper Wiz Khalifa has aroused the ire of some of his Colombian fans after he posted photos of himself visiting the grave of Pablo Escobar, the deceased leader of the Medellin drug cartel.
According to the BBC, Medellin Mayor Federico Gutierrez said Khalifa should apologize for "advocating crime".
Escobar and the Medellin Cartel were responsible for a wave of violence and terror that plagued the mountainous region of Colombia during the 1980s and 1990s. The drug syndicate is considered to be responsible for about 4,000 killings, including the bombing of an airliner in which all 107 people on board were killed. Escobar himself was killed in a violent shootout with Colombian National Police in 1993.
Khalifa posted photos on Instagram which showed him visiting Escobar's grave on Friday, leaving flowers and a marijuana joint.
Gutierrez said that Khalifa should have brought flowers to the grave of Escobar's victims.
"It's embarrassing that @wizkhalifa honors Pablo Escobar. What a lack of respect for the people of Colombia." Mr. Gutierrez said on his own Twitter account. – Staff Writers
