Zak is a paranormal investigator born on the 5th of April 1977 in Washington, D.C. He is the son of Nancy Knapp, an interior designer; and brother of Meredith Bagans. However, the identity of his father is unknown. He attended Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois and graduated in 1995. He then attended and graduated from the Motion Picture Institute in Michigan. After graduating, he moved to Las Vegas with ambitions to make documentaries, but before that he was a wedding disc jockey.
Zak Bagans believed in the paranormal when he encountered the spirit of a suicidal woman in his former home in Trenton, Michigan. From there he shifted his focus to paranormal investigations.
career
2004 was the year Zak began his paranormal investigations. He teamed up with Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwin and began producing the Ghost Adventures series . The series followed Zak and his team as they explored locations that were reportedly haunted. In the first episode, the team stayed at the supposedly haunted nightclub Bobby Mackey’s Music World. Bagans claimed that he had mysterious claw marks on his back while he spent the night there.
While the series aired, he came under fire from paranormal enthusiasts for his aggression and confrontation when dealing with ghosts. Zak defended his methods by saying that he only used aggression against spirits that harmed the living. The series ran for 14 seasons, ending its final season in May 2017.
2011 had him as the creator and host of the spin-off Paranormal Challenge , a series with a competitive edge. Paranormal Challenge pitted ghost hunters from across the US against each other as they gathered evidence by spending nights in supposedly haunted locations across the US. The evidence gathered by the teams was judged by a panel of paranormal experts to determine the winner. The series ran for a season of 12 episodes.That same year, Zak Bagans had narrated and hosts the Travel Channel special Ultimate Travel: Legends of the Park . The show was about America’s national parks and how they were haunted.
His career as a paranormal investigator inspired him to become an author. He co-wrote Dark World: Into the Shadows with Ghost Adventures Crew’s Lead Investigator starring Kelly Crigger. It debuted at no. 18 on the New York Times Best Seller list on the 23rd of September 2011. He has since successfully published three more titles: Darkness Optional: The Holy Truth (2013), I Am Haunted (2014) and I Am Haunted: Living Through the Dead (2015).
